Short answer: To get more Google reviews the right way, ask real customers after a good experience, make it easy with your direct review link and respond to every review. Never buy reviews, offer rewards for them or only ask happy customers. Honest, steady reviews help customers trust you and are part of local SEO.
In this guide: 1. Why reviews matter | 2. Get your review link | 3. When and how to ask | 4. Reply to reviews | 5. What not to do | FAQ
1. Why reviews matter
Reviews help people decide whether to contact you. Google also lists review quantity and quality among the signals that help local prominence. Reviews are only one factor, so they work best with a complete profile and a good website.
2. Get your review link
In your Google Business Profile you can copy a short link that opens the review box. Share that link by email, text message, WhatsApp or a QR code at your location. This removes steps for the customer.
3. When and how to ask
- Ask right after a job is done or a customer says thanks.
- Keep the message short and personal.
- Ask every customer, not only the ones you expect to be happy.
- Do not write the review for them.
Example message: “Thank you for choosing us. If you have a minute, an honest review on Google would help other customers. Here is the link.”
4. Reply to reviews
- Thank people for positive reviews and mention something specific.
- Answer negative reviews calmly. Say what you will do, and offer to continue offline.
- Never argue or share private customer details.
5. What not to do
- Do not buy, fake or trade reviews.
- Do not offer discounts or gifts in return for reviews. Google’s policies do not allow this.
- Do not filter who you ask based on how happy they are (“review gating”).
- Do not post reviews from your own devices or from employees.
Review policies can change, so check Google’s current guidelines. For help with a review plan, see my Local SEO service.

How many reviews do I need?
There is no set number. Aim for a steady flow of real reviews over time.
Can I delete a bad review?
Only if it breaks Google’s policies, in which case you can report it. Otherwise, reply politely.
Do I have to reply to every review?
You do not have to, but replying shows customers you care. Aim to reply to all of them.
Can I ask for reviews on other sites too?
Yes. Use the platforms your customers use, but follow each platform’s rules.
