WordPress Website Launch Checklist

By Hridoy Ahmed | Last updated: October 2026 | 7 min read

Short answer: Before you launch a WordPress site, check that search engines can index it, titles and descriptions are set, redirects are in place, forms and links work, pages load fast on mobile, backups and security are on, and analytics is ready. Turn off any noindex setting only when everything is ready.

In this guide: Content | SEO | Technical | Security | After launch | Common mistakes | FAQ

A launch is easy to rush. A short checklist helps you avoid the most common and costly mistakes.

If you want a professional to handle the build and launch, see my WordPress web design service.

Content and design

  • Remove sample pages, test posts and placeholder text
  • Proofread every page, and check that all links work
  • Test every form and confirm that emails arrive
  • Check the site on a phone and on a desktop

SEO

  • Set a title tag and meta description for each key page
  • Check one H1 per page and a logical heading order
  • Set up redirects if you are replacing an old site
  • Make sure the XML sitemap is ready
  • Turn off “Discourage search engines” in Settings > Reading, and check noindex settings in your SEO plugin, only when you are ready to go live

For a deeper crawl and indexing check, use my technical SEO checklist for WordPress. For page-level checks, see the on-page SEO checklist.

  • Forgetting redirects from old URLs

  • Not testing forms
  • Launching with no backup

FAQ

When should I remove noindex?

When the site is complete, tested and ready for visitors.

How long until Google shows my new site?

It varies. Submitting a sitemap helps, but there is no fixed time.

Should I launch on a weekend?

It is safer to launch when you can monitor the site closely for the first hours.
